      We are seeking friendly and motivated people to volunteer for our Sponsorship and Exbibitors Section. SMASH! is one of the fastest growing and highly respected non-for-profit events in Sydney, and this represents a great experience opportunity.

      Please be aware that you will need to be easily contactable and available for departmental and potential exhibitor meetings. Previous experience is preferrable but not essential.

      Duties:

      • Customer Service for exhibitors leading up to and for the entire day of SMASH! events.
      • Email communication between SMASH! departments for exhibitor matters.
      • Administrative tasks such as creating and issuing invoices/receipts, forms, responding to queries and concerns, and arranging meetings.
      • Liaising with existing exhibitors and actively seeking/researching new businesses.
      • Selling sponsorship and exhibition space, and negotiating cross promotional deals.

    • Bootleg Inspector

      Bootleg Inspector

      Are you an avid merchandise collector with product knowledge to match? SMASH! is looking for inspectors to help our existing staff enforce our anti-bootleg policy. You will need to have good product knowledge and be able to conduct yourself professionally, and must be available on the Friday setup and Saturday of SMASH!

      We are looking for inspectors in the following areas:

      • Figurines and action figures
      • Plushies and general merchandise (eg. phone hangers, keychains, accessories)
      • Manga, artbooks, DVD's and posters
      • Costumes and apparel

      Duties include:

      • Inspecting exhibitor's products for bootlegs
      • Communicating with the Department Director and Exhibitor Coordinator
      • Liaising with other volunteers before and on the day of SMASH!
      • Assisting in the creation of a bootleg guide for the organisation's use.

  • IT & Ticketing

    Providing technical infrastructure for promotions, event management and ticketing, including coordination of ticket sales.

    • Web Developer

      Web Developer

      The IT team is the group behind the SMASH! sites, ticketing, and internal setup that keeps the wheels of the organisation greased and turning.

      We're after a web developer to help bolster our numbers, with a bunch of promo and infrastructure projects lined up for this year.

      We work with a mix of Ruby, Javascript and PHP (Wordpress). We're fans of Git, Sass, Rails and Sinatra, but are flexible about what we use to get the job done. Design or sysadmin skills would be a bonus.

      Some of the projects you might want to work on:

      • Snazzing up the new SMASH! 2012 website.
      • Promotional and operational mini-sites (like this one).
      • Our online and on-the-day Ticketing update.
      • Kick-ass things for attendees like the Guide.
      • Assorted mysterious web bling.

  • Programming (Events)

    The department in charge of all events that run during the course of the convention.

    • Assistant Director

      Assistant Director

      The SMASH! Programming (Events) Team is looking for new staff members to directly assist the Programming Director. The Programming department plans and runs all the activities that happen on the day of the convention, such as cosplay, karaoke, screenings or stage events.

      As an Assistant Director you will:

      • Assist the director throughout the preparation of SMASH! before the day such as creating Event Briefs, Time Schedules, Runsheets, Equipment lists etc.
      • Take charge of your areas on the SMASH! event day, keeping them on track and running smoothly.

    • Team Member

      Team Member

      The SMASH! Programming (Events) Team is looking for new staff members for Coordinator and Assistant level roles. The Programming department plans and runs all the activities that happen on the day of the convention, such as cosplay, karaoke, screenings or stage events.

      Being a member of the Programming team means:

      • Brainstorming and planning interesting events, and making sure they run smoothly.
      • Running a small crew of volunteers, scheduling and timetabling shifts, and training them up to help out on the day.
      • Working with the Programming Director and other Programming staff, and getting attendees involved in your event.

    • Cosplay Assistant

      Cosplay Assistant

      The Cosplay Team is looking for new staff members with an active interest in cosplay to assist the Cosplay Coordinator.

      The Cosplay Team is in charge of running all cosplay related events (such as cosplay chess) as well as the big Cosplay Competition on stage.

      As a Cosplay Assistant you will:

      • Assist the Cosplay Coordinator prepare for SMASH! with tasks such as creating event briefs, runsheets, brainstorming new event ideas, and taking Cosplay Competition registrations.
      • On the day of SMASH! the Cosplay Assistant assists by helping to run the Cosplay Info Desk, organise Cosplay volunteers, and helping to run and oversee Cosplay Events.

      We are looking for someone with good cosplay knowledge and experience and who wishes to join the Cosplay Team long-term.

    • Gundam Assistant

      Gundam Assistant

      The Programming (Events) Team is looking for new staff in assisting the Gundam Events Coordinator.

      The Gundam Events refers to the running of and setting up of the Gundam Workshop as well as the coordination of the competition and exhibitor area for Bandai

      As Gundam Assistant you will:

      • Assist the coordinator in pre-event organisation
      • Act as a body double for the Coordinator on the day when he is not available
      • Help train volunteers on training day and manage them on the day

      We are looking for someone with Gundam knowledge and has experience in building kits.

    • Panels Assistant

      Panels Assistant

      The Programming (Events) Team is looking for new staff in assisting the Panels Coordinator.

      The Panels team is involved in recruiting panellists, scheduling, and providing necessary support to the panels that occur in our Panels room, as well as other panel related events.

      As a Panels Assistant you will:

      • Assist the Panels Coordinator in pre-event panellist recruitment and selection, parsing content and verifying compatibility of material, help train and manage volunteers.
      • On the day, act as a body double for the Panels Coordinator when she is not available

      We are looking for someone with a wide knowledge of topics related to potential panel content.
