Screening Assistant

SMASH! Programming is looking for a new Screening Assistant who will work hand in hand with the Screening Coordinator, Programming director, assistant and the Marketing team. The candidate is expected to assist the Screening Coordinator, Programming director and assistant in management of all screening-related duties. As the Screening Assistant, you will be assisting the Screening Coordinator, reporting to the Programming Director, all planning and selection of screening titles and managing screening sessions during the duration of the convention. You will be working closely with the Marketing team and Programming Director prior and during the event. The ideal candidate would have a knowledge and appreciation for a wide range of anime genres, has excellent time management skills, can work at an individual capacity and has experience running small workshops/events.

This includes; but is not limited to:


  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest anime releases domestically
  • Researching the latest anime trends and interests in the community
  • Selecting suitable anime screenings that coincide with the preferences of the SMASH! community as well as promote local distribution companies
  • Ensuring screenings are age appropriate
  • Applying for Film Festival Exemptions for titles without classifications
  • Ensuring that all software and codecs are available on the device that will be playing the screenings
  • Having a backup of the digital copies of the screenings

(On the Day )

  • Checking that all the equipment required is at the venue (preferably during set-up day)
  • Ensuring that viewers are carded for screenings that have a rating of MA15+ or above
  • Running the screenings, keeping everything on time
  • Coordinating your volunteers
  • Coordination with Marketing to promote screenings events: Submitting content to website coordinator for screening details through programming director, providing a timeline for social media promotion
  • Training Volunteers: Ensuring that all volunteers are appropriately trained for your events, submitting to the Programming Director your volunteer needs and outlining their roles for administrative purposes

To be considered for the role, you must

  • Proficiency in written English and a clear and friendly writing style are essential.
  • All positions in Ticketing require availability for both days of the convention
  • Knowledge and passion in a wide range of anime genres in all formats and up to date knowledge of new domestic and international releases.

  • General Computer Skills
  • Be available throughout the year for staff workshops, department meetings and volunteer training sessions


  • Experience in running small-scale events or workshops
  • Above average computer knowledge, (video formats, video software needed, etc.)
