Accessibility & Inclusion Advocate

The A&I Working Group will rapidly develop and deploy initiatives to improve disability confidence and incorporate inclusive design into people-facing aspects of our operations.

Pre-convention

  • Contribute towards design and consultation for A&I, introduce and guide staff and management. 
  • Work with each of the following teams to rapidly develop initiatives for accessibility:
    • Attendee Experience – review accessibility, work with team on communicating this information through website and signage.
    • Sales & Partnerships – be a point of contact for stakeholders requiring adjustments, particularly for Artist Market
    • People & Culture – promote and train staff and crew in inclusive behaviour and language and develop action plans.
    • Programming – consult and codesign access for events.
    • Event and Operations – Develop and staff a Chill Zone / Quiet Area. Work with Operations on selecting and maintaining a suitable space for both in house and queuing areas.

On The Day

  • Be a point of contact for accessibility related complaints and feedback from attendees,
  • Monitor and operate areas of the show floor.
    • Attendee Experience / Programming – Monitor lifts, attendee movement and crowd control on show floor
    • Chill Zone / Quiet Area – Monitor attendees using this area and ensure any assistance within reason is catered for or escalated accordingly.  Work with ICC for any specific requirements that may arise through the help of Operations team
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS
Skills and experience

  • Working knowledge and understanding of current accessibility principles, for example Universal Design
  • Up to date knowledge of inclusive language and practices
  • Previous senior volunteer or customer service experience

Availability

  • Contactable at least 2 days per week via email and phone
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly all-hands workshops as required
  • Available in person for convention setup day (30 June 2023) and the convention days (1-2 July 2023)

  • Current Mental Health First Aider certification
