The Accounting and Analytics (A&A) team is a support driven department responsible for tracking and facilitating all revenue/expenditure before, during and after the convention as well as predicting and analysing any audience and business trends. By preparing data-driven insights and up-to-date reporting, the AA department aims to drive direction and clarity for SMASH! in both the present and future.

The A&A Director will be leading this team and will be working closely with the Event Director, Business Services Director and Board in order to execute the financial strategy of the organisation and its events. You will be the main stakeholder for all things related to revenue/expenses and will be responsible for preparing financial reports for audit and legislative compliance. You will also be communicating with other departments to develop their budgets and to deliver strategic and financial support where necessary.

You will also be responsible for reviewing data to analyse attendee behaviour and trends to allow the organisation to make informed decisions for future conventions. During the convention, you will also need to coordinate and lead volunteers to collect such data. Overall, the ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills, a sound financial background, work well in a high pressure environment, and have excellent problem solving skills.

As the financial backbone of the organisation, the Accounting and Analytics Director will be leading a team managing all money matters at SMASH! Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in developing the financial strategic direction of the organisation
  • Reviewing and approving payments to be processed
  • Collaborating with Sales and Partnership team to issue and track invoices for our artists and exhibitors
  • Ensuring data loaded into accounting software is correct, reconciled and properly documented for reporting
  • Tracking of event cash flow and reporting regularly to board and management team
  • Tracking and ensuring budgets for all departments are managed responsibly
  • Submitting quarterly Business Activity Statement
  • Preparing financial year end reports for audit to present to the Annual General Meeting
  • Planning On-The-Day cash/revenue processes and procuring financial equipment as required such as merchandise sales, ticket sales, Maid Cafe sales etc.
  • Collation and analysis of attendee survey data
  • Analysing business/financial and audience trends from Google Analytics and social media
  • Leading volunteer team to observe and track foot traffic on event day
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS
  • Studied a business/commerce degree
  • Data literacy; comfortable with working with data and numbers
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience in preparing financial reports (balance sheets, P&L statements)
  • Experience in leading a group or team
  • Contactable on a regular basis online and over the phone
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Attend meetings, workshops and activities as required
  • Available for convention days in Sydney, Australia
  • Strong moral compass and clean record of financial responsibility
DESIRABLE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS
  • CPA/CA or equivalent qualifications will be highly considered, even if currently studying for these
  • Previous volunteer or customer service experience
  • Previous experience in working with accounting software (MYOB, Xero, Netsuite, etc)
  • Experience with using CRM platforms (Salesforce, etc)
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience in using analytical tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc) or conducting qualitative/quantitative research would be a plus
