Guest Translator (Japanese)

The SMASH! Guest department is looking for a new Guest Translator who will provide supportive and professional level translation for the Guest Department in the interface with the VIP Guest or their representative. Throughout the year you will be requested to help with translations of various documents and communications. You may not be assigned to a specific team and may be requested to assist across the entire department. On the event weekend you will be assisting the team when required in areas such as media interview interpretation, signings interpreting or between the Guest team and Guest Coordinators as required. These activities differ to the Guest “Interpreter” role who fill in for translations on stage. As a Guest Interpreter, you must also comply with general SMASH! Regulations as well as keeping all correspondence with you prior to the event confidential, as well as any personal information about the Guest themselves. You must also comply with the general SMASH! Regulations.

Pre-Convention 

  • Translate documentation as requested of the Guest department, including contracts, emails, event briefs, stage scripts/briefs, schedules and other correspondences
  • Optional: familiarise with content related to the VIP Guest based on the brief, and possible content that may fall within the brief that is not explicitly mentioned

During Convention

  • Assist the Guest Coordinators throughout the weekend as assigned, or assist with the Guest Director.
  • Optional: Attend the dry run rehearsal to assist in communications between the Guest and SMASH MC’s etc

Optional Pre-Convention Scope

  • Assist in creating content for Guest events as assigned including stage scripts and MC briefs
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Proficiency in Japanese
  • Professional presentation and attitude to the SMASH team and VIP Guest
  • Availability in Sydney over the Convention weekend
  • Contactable on a regular basis online and over the phone
DESIRABLE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS
  • NAATI Accreditation
  • Experience in Japanese business lingo (e.g. keigo)
  • Knowledge and/or interest in Japanese culture and popular cultural references.
  • Knowledge in the VIP Guest assigned
