Systems Administrator

As a System Administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth and reliable functionality of our servers, services and networks throughout the year, and for configuration and monitoring of services and networks required during the convention itself. The candidate is expected to provision new software and services required by the organisation, ensuring that security upgrades are applied in a timely manner, and making performance improvements as required. This position is also involved with software, hardware and services procurement.

 

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Working with others on projects of wider importance to the organisation
  • Adapting to new environments, and collaborating on innovative solutions to new challenges.
  • You will also be part of processes to procure additional hardware, services, and software
  • Handling any Application Support and edge cases that may arise
  • Ensuring continued performance and operation of the software
  • Assisting other IT staff as required

 

During the convention:

  • Deployment and testing of network infrastructure and equipment
  • Monitoring network performance, diagnosing and responding to any issues
  • Assisting other IT staff as required
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Be proficient in written English and a clear and friendly writing style are essential
  • Require availability for team meetings, workshop and training days, set up day and both days of the convention
  • Reside in Sydney, Australia
  • Be easily contactable via email & mobile phone
  • Have experience in developing new software solutions, debugging and maintaining existing software
  • Be able to work with other team members and departments to build the best possible applications
  • Have specialised system administration knowledge and high proficiency with Linux system (can Linux in sleep)
  • Be experienced with deploying a wide range of applications in a wide range of situations
  • Have a high level of availability to handle urgent issues
  • Have a good understanding of when to say “NO”
  • Have knowledge of the LAMP web development environment
  • Proficient with database management (PostgresSQL, MySQL)
  • Have knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Azure, AWS or equivalent
  • Have knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment processes and structures
DESIRABLE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous volunteer or customer service experience
  • Knowledge and experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Flux, Atlassian applications
  • Prior experience with MicroTik and UniFi hardware
