SMASH! Trivia are looking for a new Trivia Assistant to assist the Trivia Coordinator and Trivia team. The Trivia team is a close team devoted to creating fun, challenging and interesting trivia events for the SMASH! convention. The trivia events are Japanese pop culture themed, with a focus on anime, but also includes Japanese manga, games, music and more. The Trivia team focuses on creating all the content for SMASH! trivia events, where it involves quite a lot of fun research, and the opportunity to share interesting and quirky things about your favourite series’.

As the Trivia Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting and reporting to the Trivia Coordinator in implementation, coordinating, presenting and hosting Trivia events.

Trivia Assistant(s) are tasked with assisting the Trivia Coordinator with the following:

• Assisting with creation of Trivia events
• Researching and creating Trivia event content
• Producing Trivia events presentations to specification
• Assisting with the implementation of Trivia events
• Assisting with coordinating with other departments to run Trivia events
• Assisting with the training of volunteers
• Assisting with presenting and hosting trivia events at SMASH!

The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of Japanese pop culture, be interested in trivia and enjoy bamboozling event participants. Knowing lots of series is great, but it’s also an opportunity to branch out and research series you’ve never considered before

Key Responsibilities 

SMASH! Trivia are looking for a new Trivia Assistant to assist the Trivia Coordinator and team. The candidate is expected to assist the Trivia Coordinators in management of all SMASH! trivia duties and responsibilities.

Trivia Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Creating trivia content
• Mentoring and training volunteers in the process with the support of the team.
• Implementing trivia events and ensuring all materials are correct and up to date.
• Coordinating with marketing to promote trivia events
• Supervising the Trivia Desk and Trivia Mini-Games

Pre-Convention and On The Day 

• Brainstorming new trivia events and/or improving existing ones
• Submitting event proposals, equipment lists and sponsorship suggestions to the Trivia Coordinator for approval
• Generating a wide variety trivia questions that target all genres of anime, manga and games
• Creating Trivia event presentations (e.g. PowerPoints, Kahoot quizzes)
• Coordinating with other SMASH! departments to facilitate events.
• Following Trivia Coordinator’s direction.
• Presenting/hosting trivia events.
• Assisting with supervising volunteers.
• Ensuring events run to schedule

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS

Contactable on a regular basis via email and phone Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken) Attend meetings, workshops and activities as required Available for both convention day(s) in Sydney, Australia Extensive knowledge of anime/manga/gaming/Japanese pop culture Excellent and timely email and online communication Time management skills and the ability to work under pressure Ability to work independently and follow the directions from the Trivia Coordinator and upper management
