Please note that all positions are on a purely volunteer basis, thus are unpaid and the majority of work will be take-home. We are all volunteers who share a collective passion for putting together an event for fans by fans.

Design

Design is where the visual magic happens for SMASH! and works closely with all departments within SMASH! to ensure consistency through the organisation. Primary responsibilities will include developing visual images across all of SMASH!’s social media platforms (website, Facebook & Instagram), marketing materials for promotions & campaign and other internal design requirements and requests. You will be able to show your creative skills, while gaining hands-on experience with a large scale event.

  • Graphic Designer Assistant

    SMASH! Design is looking for new Graphic Designer Assistants to work hand in hand with the Design Director and Coordinators. The design department is where the visual magic happens for SMASH! The candidate is expected to assist the Design Directors in the development of visual images used across all of SMASH! and SMASH! Inc.

Exhibitors and Sponsors

E&S is where SMASH!’s relationships with exhibitors and sponsors are made. You will work closely with the all the exhibitors and sponsors that are interested in SMASH! as well as relating departments within SMASH!. Primary responsibilities, such as, approaching businesses for exhibition and sponsorship opportunities as at SMASH! and liaising with the exhibitors and artists of SMASH! all year round are just some of the few things E&S do. Our department consists of four (4) sub-departments - Artist Circle, Arts & Fashion, Anime, Artist and Community. Each department has a Coordinator and an Assistant.

  • Bootleg Inspector

    SMASH! is looking for a new Bootleg Inspector who will work hand in hand with the Exhibitors and Sponsors Director. The candidate is expected to enforce the Exhibitor Terms and Conditions at SMASH!, in particular the rules around Bootlegs, Plagiarism, Dangerous/unauthorised goods, and Adult Content.

  • Guest Coordinator

    SMASH! is looking for new Guest Coordinators to work hand in hand with the Guest Director. The candidate is expected to look after the guest and make sure that their needs are met outside and during the convention. 

IT

IT is responsible for all the technical issues and matters prior, during, and after the SMASH! convention. Our responsibilities range from managing the internal background and software of the SMASH! website, to on-the-day technical exercises and duties. SMASH! has a number of systems that help make the convention the great success that it is, many of the which have been developed in-house. The IT infrastructure that we manage is the backbone of the convention, as all departments rely on the systems running smoothly and without delay or fault.

The IT department has a flat management structure with all members reporting directly to the IT Director and advising them of the best possible solutions to meet requirements and achieve goals. The team also employs a principle of “You can ask anyone anything anytime”, meaning no-one can stop you from asking hard and important questions and suggesting new ideas. SMASH IT is a collaborative environment where all team members are part of developing projects and direction within the department.

  • Software Developer

    SMASH! IT is looking for a new Software Developer. As a Software Developer, you will be responsible for writing web-based and client-based application software, ensuring the IT systems and SMASH! site are fully functional, bug free and easy to navigate behind-the-scenes. The ideal candidate will be reliable, organised, self motivated, highly organised, demonstrates initiative and has exceptional communication and presentation skills whether you work independently or as a team. The candidate is expected to assist the IT Director in managing the SMASH! website and IT-related issues throughout the year and completing other projects/tasks that the team needs to accomplish.

  • System Administrator

    The SMASH! IT Department is looking for a new System Administrator. As a System Administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth and reliable functionality of our servers, services and networks throughout the year, and for configuration and monitoring of services and networks required during the convention itself. The candidate is expected to provision new software and services required by the organisation, ensuring that security upgrades are applied in a timely manner, and making performance improvements as required. This position is also involved with software, hardware and services procurement.

Marketing

Marketing is responsible for the management of communications and promotions of SMASH! products and values to a variety of stakeholders. Using a variety of mediums to communicate the core messages of SMASH! and SMASH Inc, Marketing focuses on exposing SMASH! to a greater number of stakeholders and managing the public image of SMASH! throughout the year. Marketing work closely with all departments to ensure a consistent and accurate message is delivered to the audience. 
The department is comprised of of Four (4) key units - Visual Media, Written Media, Advertising and Community, where there are several sub-departments under each area.

  • Event Photographer

    SMASH! is looking for Event Photographers who work hand in hand with the Visual Media team and Marketing Director where you will be responsible for providing high-quality images for print and online channels, primarily working at the main event in July, as well as at affiliated events.

  • Mid/Senior Event Videographer

    SMASH! is looking for Mid/Senior Event Videographers who will be responsible for producing high-quality footage for our digital marketing channels. The candidate will primarily be working at our exciting event in July, working semi-independently to film the events, scenes, activities, and people during the SMASH! weekend in July and potentially at affiliated events.

  • Junior Event Videographers

    SMASH! is looking for Junior Event Videographers who will be responsible for producing high-quality footage for our digital marketing channels. The candidate will primarily be working at our exciting event in July, working semi-independently to film the events, scenes, activities, and people during the SMASH! weekend in July and potentially at affiliated events.

  • Social Media Assistant

    SMASH! is looking for new Social Media Assistants to work hand-in-hand with the Marketing Director, Head of Written Media and Head of Social Media. The candidate is expected to assist the Head of Written Media and Head of Social Media in creating content and messages through social media outlets to communicate key messages and deliver of messages to various stakeholders prior, during and after the convention.

People Services

  • Assistant Staff Coordinator

    SMASH! Department of People Services (DPS) is looking for a new Assistant Staff Coordinator to work hand-in-hand with the Directors and Staff Coordinator. The candidate is expected to assist the Directors, Staff Coordinator and all our core volunteers with all duties and responsibilities that are relevant to staff.  

Programming

Programming is one of the largest departments in SMASH! as they manage all internal programming administrative duties. From following up with each sub-department to creating the programming schedules for the days of the event, the Programming team plays a crucial role to ensure that the SMASH! weekend schedules run smoothly, successfully and on time. Our department consists of twelve (12) sub-departments which are Arts, Maid Cafe, BJD (Ball-Joint-Doll), Karaoke, AMV, Cosplay, Fanfiction, Screening, Trivia, Panels & Workshop, Gundam and Main Stage.

  • Micro Events Coordinator

    SMASH! is looking for a new Micro Events Coordinator to focus on creating and maintaining minor events that require very little to no volunteer involvement on the day. 

Statistics

Statistics work closely with all departments within SMASH! as well as sponsors, exhibitors and attendees. Within this department, we gather, collate and analyze data from a variety of researches being conducted relating to SMASH! in order to prepare reports for the rest of SMASH! and SMASH! Inc. which will assist in improving the SMASH! event and be ahead of the latest trends.  The Statistic department has a flat management structure with all members reporting directly to the Statistic Director and Assistant Director. 

  • Analyst

    SMASH! is looking for new Analysts to work hand-in-hand with the Statistics Director and Assistant Director. The candidate is expected to assist the Statistics Director and Assistant Director in researching, analysing data and compiling reports for the benefit of the convention.
